Rio Dulce & Livingston

Guatemala

sunny 25 °C

From Punta Gorda (PG to the locals) I headed across the Caribbean Sea to Livingson Guatemala, which proved to be the easiest exit and entry from one country to the next! Livingston is atop a hill, and saying that it is picturesque is a bit of an understatement. There was a small storm on Wednesday night and it blew the power for several hours but it wasn´t any problem. From Livingston I traveled to Rio Dulce and the trip of the river was nothing short of amazing. The trip was about 2 1/2 hours through lush jungle canyons - I´ve never seen anything like it and as I said amazed!
Arrived in Rio Dulce yesterday afternoon and checked out the "city" which is set along side the main road running in and out of the city.
This morning I visited an orphanage just across the river called Casa Guatemala and runs the hostel I´m staying at. It is a warm loving place, the only bummer is they are also feeling the downturn of the economy and having troubles with farming and offering the children more than rice and beans for dinner - nonetheless the children are all very healthy and happy. I am seriously considering doing some volunteering there later on in my trip.
Tomorrow I´m heading either north to Flores or West to Antigua not sure will decide in the morning...Immigration Office
