Tulum

the don det of Mexico

sunny 28 °C

Quite possibly the sweetest spot in Mexico. Caught the 2nd class bus from Cancun to Tulum (excellent bus service in Mexico!) Friday and took my chances at the "best hostel in town" which was also booked but thankfully the whole of Friday was my lucky day, from winning 2 pesos from my bag of chips, to Raul chief of laundry service on the bus telling me I was muy bonita and me translating to English = very pretty, to landing a room at the hostel. It is an amazing hostel and after two night in the door downstairs I got to move upstairs to the tree house of sorts and finally I´ve motivated myself to move on. The mother and sons that run the place make you feel at home instantly and my fellow travellers were also wonderful. Friday night I enjoyed the beach and then a nice beach party with everyone from the hostel. Saturday I checked out the grand cenote and then the Mayan runis at the beach. Sunday I went to casa cenote which was absolutly amazing (excellent bbc documentary about it and Tulum), and yesterday a huge cycle trip to turtle bay 50 k´s (or so)... no turtles but loads of fish, snorkeling everyday is great. Now on my way to Belize. I will up load more pics when I get there as the connection here can not support the photo upload in time for me to make my bus!

Chichen-Itza

Myan Ruins

sunny 25 °C

Was not sure where I was going yesterday but Chichen-Itza was the right call. It was absolutly amazing, and a bit crazy to be there since I only watched a documentary about the place a few weeks back. No tools, no wheels, and yet they were able to create these wonders.

Sometimes it is very hard to get other people to take a good picture not cutting off the top or bottom... so well don´t expect wonder shots of me. They Mayan ruins also have a complex of sorts but the area which you are allowed to visit a fraction of the entire area, but still much smaller than Angkor.

Today I will head to Tulum, the laid back backpacker area of the Yucatan

Cancun!

a classy TJ meets beautiful white sand beaches

sunny 25 °C

From -14(without the windchill) to 28! When I arrived last night I did the happy dance, and today when my feet to a stroll outside rocking flipflops I promise they would have done a backflip if they were not attached to yours truely! Flight was good, and thankfully my instincts didn´t let me down and I made my way to the hostel.

Cancun, well is Cancun - and for those not well versed in all things Mexican holiday style (myself included) it is like a classy TJ meets beautiful white sand beaches...very romantic and probably not the best for the solo traveler to start ;)

In true AK fashion, I´m living it up in the door at great hostel and managed to walk about 15k today. They looked at me like I was nuts when I said I was going to walk to the beach - but better way is there really?

Tomorrow either heading to the half way point Belize or checking out some Mayan Ruins - I´m not sure we will see how the mood strikes in the morning...

The oh so important pic, nothing special but I´ve got to ease into it.

A little bit of paradise... I can only imagine what Belize will be like...
